Go Smoke Free for good

Did you know you are three times more likely to quit smoking with help from a stop smoking service? Whether you’re giving up for the first time or wanting to try again, we’re here to help.

We are working with GP practices across Warwickshire to offer you face-to-face and virtual support from trained stop smoking advisors, plus free resources to help you throughout your smoke free journey.

How we help you:

We provide a free 12-week stop smoking support service to anyone aged 12+ who is living, working or studying in Warwickshire, or registered with a Warwickshire GP. The support will be tailored to meet your own needs, and may include:

  • Structured individual support from a qualified stop smoking advisor, typically face-to-face at a local GP practice
  • Comprehensive support on the go with the Smoke Free app
  • Free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), vape quit quits (18+ only) and stop smoking medication (18+ only)
  • Expert help to work through common barriers to quitting including smoking triggers, withdrawal symptoms and cravings

Our service is available to residents across Warwickshire. In many cases, your smoking adviser will be based at your normal GP practice. Practices work together in local groups called Primary Care Networks. In some cases, your adviser may be based at a nearby practice or offered an online consultation.

Getting ready to quit

Stopping smoking can be tough – but whether you have smoked for four months or forty years, there are health and wellbeing benefits that you will start to see almost immediately.

After 8 hours
Your oxygen levels are recovering, and the harmful carbon monoxide level in your blood will have reduced by half.
After 48 hours

All carbon monoxide is flushed out. Your lungs are clearing out mucus and your senses of taste and smell are improving.

After 3-9 months

Any coughs, wheezing or breathing problems will be improving as your lung function increases by up to 10%.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for free support?
You are eligible for this support if you are aged 12 or over and live, work or study in Warwickshire or are registered with a GP in Warwickshire. Some elements of the service, such as medication, are only available if you are aged 18 or over.
What should I expect when I contact your service?
If you contact our central team at IPC, you will speak to one or our trained advisors who will ask you a few details such as where you live or work, the GP practice you are registered with and how you would like to receive support. You will be invited to join our free 12-week stop smoking support programme. In most cases, our advisor will book you into a convenient clinic for you which may be at your local practice, a neighbouring practice or over the phone. If you prefer, you can also contact your normal GP practice directly and ask to be referred to the stop smoking advisor.
What if I can't attend clinics?
If attending clinics is difficult for you, we can help in other ways, either over the phone or via the Smoke Free App. Talk to our advisors for more information about the options available.
I'm based in Coventry - am I eligible?

Collaborating in this way allows us to offer more consistent support and additional services in familiar locations. South Warwickshire GP Federation is coordinating this service on our behalf, and will be delivering some elements of the service directly in some areas. Our Stop Smoking service is commissioned by Warwickshire County Council and funded by the UK Government
Will this service impact the availability of other GP appointments
No. This service is funded through a government grant specifically to help people stop smoking. Smoking advisors have been appointed specifically for this purpose.
